Integrated Algebra 1 & Geometry
9th grade                        2 Math credits
Prerequisite:  95 or higher in 8th grade Math; Pass 8th grade TAKS; teacher recommendation
Course Description: A fast-paced integrated course of Algebra I and geometry intended for the 9th grade student wanting to take calculus as a senior and who did not take 8th grade Algebra I.  This course focuses on solving problems that use a variety of mathematical ideas.  Some of the major topics that will be covered include linear, quadratic, and exponential functions and their graphs.  A significant emphasis will be placed on geometric models including the Pythagorean Theorem, perimeter, area, surface area, and volume, which will be integrated throughout the course.  This course meets for two hours and students will receive credit for regular algebra 1 and geometry after completing the year. Students who do not earn an 85 cumulative average in the fall semester will be encouraged to transfer to Algebra I to help ensure a solid algebraic foundation.
Algebra I (ALG 1)
9th grade                          1 Math credit
Prerequisite:  None
Course Description:  Covers the topics of operations and properties of real numbers, variables and equations, linear functions and systems, inequalites, polynomials, factoring, and irrational and rational numbers. The use of graphing calculators is incorporated throughout to support the curriculum.
Geometry (GEOM)
9th-10th grade                   1 Math credit
Prerequisite:  Algebra I
Course Description:  Introduction and basics of plane, solid, and coordinate geometry.  Stresses geometric knowledge of physical space, deductive and inductive reasoning, and the integration of geometry and algebra.
Geometry Pre-AP (GEOM)
9th grade                            1 Math credit
Prerequisite:  Algebra I Pre-AP (95 or above); teacher recommendation
Course Description:  Introduction and basics of plane, solid, spherical, and coordinate geometry.  Stresses geometric knowledge of physical space, deductive and inductive reasoning.  Higher level and critical thinking skills addressed by providing opportunities for discovery and more detailed proof writing. Ninth graders who did NOT take Pre-AP Algebra I must pass an Algebra I test.
Mathematical Models with Applications (MMA)
11th-12th grade                 1 Math credit
Prerequisite:  Algebra I, Geometry
Course Description:  Designed for students who need to transition into Algebra II. The class will focus on probability, algebra, geometry, and math of finance with emphasis on using technology to solve applied problems. Student may NOT take this course after earning 1/2 credit in Algebra II.
Algebra II (ALG 2)
10th-12th grade                 1 Math credit
Prerequisite:  Algebra I credit and an 85 or higher in Geometry
Course Description:  Designed to prepare students for higher level math through study of equations, inequalities, and functions.  Both algebraic and graphic methods are used in problem solving.  Some key topics include linear equations and inequalities, matrices, quadratic functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, rational expressions and functions. Graphing calculator is highly recommended for this course (TI-83+ or TI-84).
Algebra II Pre-AP (ALG 2)
10th grade                         1 Math credit
Prerequisite:  Algebra I, Geometry Pre-AP and teacher recommendation required
Course Description:  Extends Algebra II curriculum by providing opportunities to solve algebraic problems on a higher level.  Emphasis on functional relationships and problem solving in real situations, which should help prepare students to take Precalculus the following year. For tenth graders who had an average of 90 or above in Algebra I Pre-AP. Highly recommended that each student have his/her own graphing calculator (TI-83+ or TI-84).
Pre-Calculus Pre-AP (PRECALC)
11th-12th grade                 1 Math credit
Prequisite:  Algebra I, Geometry, 85 or higher in Algebra II and teacher recommendation
Course Description:  Academically rigorous course requiring daily preparation.  Students enrolled in Pre-Cal Pre-AP should have good algebra skills and be willing to utilize those skills to explore new topics which will prepare them for Calculus.  The primary focus of this course is the study of functions, including trigonometric functions and their applications.  Upon completing this course, students should be well-prepared for taking AP Calculus or most college level mathematics courses.  A graphing calculator is required (TI-83+ or TI-84).
Algebra III-Independent Study in Mathematics (INSTUMTH)
11th-12th grade                         1 Math credit
Prerequisite:  Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II
Course Description:  Designed for students who have completed Algebra II, but who need to strengthen their algebra skills before taking Pre-Calculus or college-level math.  Students will extend their level of mathematical skills and reasoning beyond the topics covered in Algebra II.  Some topics include functions (linear, quadratic, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, etc.), and basic trigonometry.  This course should be effective in preparing students for taking a basic College Algebra course.  A graphing calculator is required (TI-83+ or TI-84). Students may NOT take this course after earning 1/2 credit in Pre-Calculus.
AP Statistics (APSTATS)
11th-12th grade                 1 Math credit
Prerequisite:  Algebra II, enrollment in or completion of Pre-Calculus is recommended
Course Description:  Major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data.  Use graphing calculators with statistic capabilities.  Students who successfully complete the AP exam may receive credit for a one semester college statistics course.  Excellent course for good math students to take along with Pre-Calculus Pre-AP.  Fee required for exam.  A graphing calculator is required (TI-83+ or TI-84).
AP Calculus-AB (APCALCAB)
12th grade                 1 Math credit
Prerequistie:  Pre-Calculus grade of 80 or higher and teacher recommendation
Course Description:  Covers functions, limits, derivatives, and integrals.  Topics viewed geometrically, numerically, and algebraically.  Student may earn credit for one semester of college calculus with qualifying AP exam scores.  A graphing calculator is required (TI-83+ or TI-84).  Fee required for course supplies and exam.
AP Calculus-BC (APCALCBC)
12th grade                  1 Math credit
Prerequisite:  95 or above in Pre-Calculus and teacher recommendation
Course Description:  Course covers AB Calculus material by the end of the 1st semester.  Additional BC Topics including parametric functions, polar functions, vector functions, applications of integrals, and polynomial approximations and series are also covered.  This is a very fast paced and intense course for students intending to pursue careers in the engineering sciences or computer sciences at the university level.  Students may earn up to two semesters of college credit with qualifying AP scores. A graphing calculator is required (TI-83+ or TI-84). Fee for course and exam.
